Persephone's Pomegranates
So with my username, you'd think I be all about the pomegranate.  And I do love them, truly.  But they're such a lot of work, and I quite frankly, didn't like ruining clothes and getting my white kitchen splattered with red juice.  Because you all know it always stays clean.  *wink*

So the last time I was at my friend Stephanie's house she taught me how to open these little suckers so everything stays clean.  Which is all kinds of awesome, cause they have certain "properties."  *wink wink nudge nudge*  There's image intensive, how-to pictures under the cut.

Not very pretty on the outside are they?

Just cutting them open releases thier juice that is so deep in hue that it's used to dye clothes.

However, you dunk those suckers in a bowl of water and then scoop out the little seeds and it's all contained.

The seeds sink and the pith (icky white stuff) floats, so you can scoop it out of the water fairly easily.

There's a lot of it.

Then you drain off the water in a collander in the sink.

And you have a healthy snack!  They're sweet and slightly crunchy.  I enjoy them by themselves and on salads; Stephanie actually puts them in guacamole.  Huh.  Go figure, right?

And I think we're going to the movies tonight.  Do I cave and let Ethan and Aaron see Alvin and the Chipmunks?  *sigh*

Hooray! Another 'How to Cook with persephone33!'
And I see you cleaned your kitchen, darling!

I like the seeds in fruit salad. Very good.

I caved and we took the kids to see it last night. :)

Yes, I cleaned my kitchen, and contemplated posting a picture of that as a kind of yin to that video's yang.

Ooh. Fruit salad. Good idea.

I always cave. What can you do?

That's how my mom taught me how to do it. I can't imagine tring to do it anyother way, and not staining everything in sight!

That's because you can't!

I want to see The Water Horse just to see Scotland and listen to the accents. *nods*

I think I may take the boys to see that on Friday. Matinee prices, though. It breaks the bank to take a family of four to the movies with popcorn and cokes and everything! Whew!

I only go to matinée movies because the prices are insane. Do you know how much popcorn I could make at home for $7?? A TON!

No kidding! It's POPCORN. Seriously.

WOAH! I'm in awe of your pomegranate skills. Seriously, if I had known this a few months earlier, I wouldn't have messed up one of my favorite shirts!
