It's been even longer than that since I've posted about anything involving real life.
Let's catch up, shall we?
First of all, Nolan and I both got parts in the same play for the first time in 20 years. The last thing we did together was The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year, by John Guare, back when we were in college. In the middle of January, we auditioned for and were cast in Rumors, by Neil Simon. We play Glenn and Cassie Cooper, a NY senate hopeful and his sort of bi-polar, needy, crystal-rubbing wife. We're having a hell of a good time.
My part is pretty small; Cassie spends a lot of time offstage being huffy in the powder room or pouting in the car, so I'm also doing the costumes for the show. Surprise, surprise. But it's tuxedos and cocktail dresses. What's not to love? Pictures will be forthcoming.
Ethan and AJ are really fantastic. They've been troupers through this whole process, so far, and I appreciate how mature and responsible they are. It's been a challenge, us not being here a lot, but they've done very well. Ethan is playing basketball and his team has only lost one game, and AJ is AJ. It's a full time job. Currently he's making waffles in the kitchen for our Saturday morning breakfast. He did not need my help for this.
Last week, Nolan and I co-chaired a fundraising event (The Velvet Rope Affair) for the theatre with another couple, and it made over twice what this particular even has ever netted in the past. It was a LOT of work. A LOT. There were four wines paired with three heavy appetizers and a dessert, lounge singers with a grand piano, gorgeous furniture, seating and cocktail tables, a raffle, a place to get your photograph taken (Like at the golden globes or whatever) and a cash bar. A LOT. And I've learned that party planning isn't my favorite thing. However, I'm glad to have done it, and I'm glad it made money. But I won't be doing it again. It made me CRAZY. (Crazier than normal. Too many elements/other people to depend on.)
Weight loss is slow going. It's annoying.
It's snowing right now. *sigh* I'm ready for Spring. We're traveling bunches in the Spring and Summer, and I'm itching to get out of town. San Antonio, Denver, London, Seattle (maybe), and Florida. Bring it on!
But first we have to finish basketball season and Rumors. So here we go.
