I mean to say.
★So as I start the prospect of my busy weekend, I feel like I need to come to you, my peoples of the intranet, and give you the update of what's been up over here at my house. (Not actually at my house, this particular use of in my house is used as Urban Slang, as in, "This is my house, yo. Stay outta my house."
Because I've got street cred and stuff.
Anyway, this week has been all over the board. There's been knock down, drag out fights, minor skirmishes, signing a will, crying in the lawyer's office, sweaty rehearsals, me possibly flashing my panties at the directors of the play I'm in, and gratuitous playing of Plants vs. Zombies.
The Zombies eat my brains a LOT. I love that game, though. It's soothing. It's nice to feel in control of something.
★So rehearsal for the 39 Steps is going well. There's still much work to do, but if everyone is off book Monday, I think we can really start taking a bite out of this thing. It's SO FUNNY. And there's so much potential for more! So many bits we can work in, beats we can find, character nuances to play... THIS is the sort of acting I've missed, and I'm using every bit of every hour of theatrical training I've ever had to pull this off. And the German accent is killing me.
Overheard at rehearsal Monday:
Director: (gives leading man and I props. (Not in the Urban Slang way.) I get a gun(!), actor gets a pipe. To smoke. A smoking pipe, not a lead pipe, as in Clue. Or an urbanish gang fight.) Justin, I think we're going to get you a new pipe. That one's too big for your head.
Director: No, it's just that pipe is huge, and your head isn't... the proportions are off.
Me: (looks at my prop) Is my ass to big for this gun?
Director: I'm not touching that.
Other actor: Yeah, that's a trap. Don't answer.
Rehearsals are very good. There are only four actors in the show, so it's intimate, and cohesive and cooperative. It's really, really good. So often rehearsal sucks the joy out of theatre... because of all the attitudes involved. Not so this time. It's good. And it's been good for me, with the exception of last night. I didn't think the skirt I was wearing was too short, but after I took off my tights and replaced them with garters and stockings, I think those guys got a little more than they bargained for. Apologies all around.
★Nolan and I had The Fight Of The Century on Monday. It was ugly. The whole thing. It's amazing that even after 13 1/2 years we still let things go to the point that we explode. We'll work on that in the future.
Or not. We might just do it the way we've always done it, and call it good. We love each other, anyway.
★The boys are good. They're crazy and funny and a handful, but good. Their math homework makes me want to crawl in a ball and rock. They need haircuts, too. In a big way. Aaron's starting to get Bieber hair, and their Dad cannot have that.
★Last week, I went to a quilt show in Houston with my mother. It was a pretty cool experience. I don't necessarily quilt - not like these gals quilt - but It was informative and fun all the same. I took a couple of classes that were helpful to me (Sewing with Silk and a smattering of 10 minute lectures on 'How-to's') AND when I went out to dinner with mom and her group of 60 something (one was 80 something!) friends, I learned where the newest sex shop was in Ft. Worth. The Velvet Box. *cough* In case you wondered.
Quilters. Don't let the sweet granny personas fool ya. Still waters, and all that.
★We also signed our wills. I've cried every time we've been in the lawyer's office. Thinking about death SUCKS. And thinking about leaving the boys here alone sucks even more. Our lawyer goes to our church and he's a very nice man, but I'm sure he thinks I'm a basket case.
He's not too far off, truth be told.
But you all already knew that.
★So now I'm going to go about the business of the grocery store to prepare for the company we're having this weekend (dinners both tonight and tomorrow), cleaning the house, preparing my supplies to paint at church (Yeah, I paint during the service. It's out there, but very cool all the same) and memorize the rest of my lines. All in 48 hours.
Cover me. I'm going in.
