I cannot bear to hold it in any longer.
I love Fall.

LOVE. IT. I mean it. Fall Rocks.

I love the change in the weather, the sounds of the football coaches' whistles drifting through the neighborhood (ironic, but there you have it), homecoming, school supplies, autumn decorations... I love it all.

You know what I don't love?

Pumpkins. Freaking pumpkins, y'all. I don't love them. At all.

In the fall, every blog, coffee shop, corner bakery and amateur cook decides that grinding up gourds and shoving them into something that people PUT IN THEIR MOUTHS is a good idea. Butternut squash soup. Pumpkin waffles. Zucchini bread. Acorn squash ragout. The list goes on. I counted 24 recipes on my google reader about gourds. ABOUT GOURDS. Yuck.

I don't get it.

People LOVE the seasonal pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks. They wait for them all year. They tweet. They Facebook. They wax rhapsodic.

I gag a little. I'm not gonna lie.

For me, there will be NO PUMPKIN COOKERY. (With the exception of THIS and THIS alone.) I won't have it. Even my turncoat sister said that she eats squash, now. (WHAT? I THOUGHT WE HAD SOLIDARITY! IT WAS THE ONLY THING WE HAD IN COMMON!)

She's dead to me. I hope she knows that.

There are really only a few things that I don't like. But the pervasiveness of this fall phenomenon is making it hard for me to enjoy my favorite season.

Anyhow, I'd like a squash filter for the fall season. I like my life squash-free.

This, however, seems too much to ask from the world. So I suppose I'll sigh and carry on. And still love my sister.

But I won't love squash. And you can't make me, world. So do please stop trying.

Pumpkin spice soy chai latte. MMMM.

Also, pumpkin scones. I loathe pumpkin pie though.

But really. YAY FALL!

Oh, Elle.

At least you got the pie right.

Still, you're loved.

*giggles* I just had Pumpkin Pie tonight after we fed the missionaries. I LOVE that we have Thanksgiving in October - it means that we get Pumpkin Pie from September to Christmas.
slitherhitherslitherhither on September 26th, 2011 06:44 am (UTC)
You had pumpkin pie in SEPTEMBER?!? *faints*
Jandy the Gnome Whisperer: Aweso-mejandjsalmon on September 27th, 2011 02:02 am (UTC)
Yes indeedy! From late Sept-December you can buy pumpkin pie in Canadian grocery stores. :)

You are a lost cause. You eat tapioca, too.

LOL! I adore you, friend.

Hehehehe. Oh, poor Carrie. I can't empathize, but I can sympathize. Pumpkin pie, roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin spice lattes, various squashes - I love them all.
Carrie Leigh: nose wrinklecarrie_leigh on September 26th, 2011 11:27 pm (UTC)
And despite that, I still love YOU.
slitherhither: slitherhither_thinkingslitherhither on September 26th, 2011 07:06 am (UTC)
Hee. I feel for your squash issues. Really, I do. However, I shall disclose that -- even though I used to despise ALL things squash -- I have learned to love the squishy, slimy beast that is squash (as your sister has).

Now, do tell: when are you coming to Seattle?!?!?

(pardon my brute force editing techniques of multiple posts....)
Carrie Leigh: Texas Rangerscarrie_leigh on September 26th, 2011 11:26 pm (UTC)
No squash. EVAH.

And The Rangers are in Seattle playing the Mariners in late May, we may come then. That's the plan.

I'm right there with you on the hatred of all things gourds. I don't get the love of the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks - just this morning everyone in line behind me ordered one to go with their pumpkin muffin. Double ugh. Pumpkins fall into my dislike of all things orange - I don't eat it, drink it, wear it, write with it, nothing. *nose wrinkle*

I wish it would turn to fall here. I am so sick and tired of feeling like I live in a swamp. It's not been exceptionally hot - upper 70s/low 80s, but it's just so mother trucking humid. I want crisp cool weather with bright blue skies and fluffy white clouds, but I'm beginning to think that might be a pipe dream.

Let's form a club. We'll get cute, not orange jackets.

Thanks for the solidarity, sister.
Carmenhumbuggirl on September 26th, 2011 04:46 pm (UTC)
Maybe it's my Britishness, but I really don't get pumpkins in things that I am expected to eat.
Carrie Leigh: Being vaguecarrie_leigh on September 26th, 2011 11:24 pm (UTC)
Right? It's just not okay.

Re: Thanksgiving
Yeah. Bring pumpkin pie. It'll be the stepchild dessert, sitting in the corner with no one paying attention to it.

Two things: I'm keeping Brenna and Joseph October 15-19. If you're interested.

And are you really coming for Thanksgiving?

O Demanding One: Autumn: Happy Jackheyurs on September 27th, 2011 12:41 am (UTC)
