*hiccup* Happy New Year to Me: Egg Nog Recipe!
I'm kidding.

Because if anyone asks whether or not I've been sampling as I go this afternoon, I'll deny it.

Even if it's true. :D

Because tomorrow I'm embarking on a regime that does NOT involve putting everything I see into my mouth, because It's fanfreakingtastic, and because I love ya, I give you:

This is my own recipe. Most recipes call for brandy and rum, or whiskey. Those have their place, but I felt like something a little different this year.

And before anyone goes, "EEK! Uncooked eggs!" Have a little faith. There's a billion egg nog recipe on the net and most of them involve uncooked eggs. There are cooked nog recipes that work, but that was WAY more work than I wanted to go into today. I've always had luck with this one, though. Try it. Chances are you won't die. ;)

Time: 5 minutes, plus 1 hour’s chilling (Chilled nog is the BEST nog.)

4 large eggs

3/4 cup granulated sugar, or to taste

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, more for sprinkling

1/2 cup KAHLUA, baby! (No cheap imitations, please. If you're gonna spice your egg nog, do it right.)

12 ounces whole milk

8 ounces heavy cream (Lord, have mercy.)

Crack eggs into blender and process for one minute on medium speed. Slowly add sugar and blend for one more minute. With blender running, add remaining ingredients until combined. Refrigerate for at least one hour (up to overnight). Serve in chilled wineglasses, sprinkling nutmeg on top.

And sit by the fire to drink.

Mmmmm, I <3 egg nog.

Unfortunately, the antibiotics I'm on do not love the nog, so I'm going to have to sit at home this NYE. I'm sure the people that I won't be infecting with viral plague would thank me.

Awesome! I love egg nog. My brother-in-law makes some amazing nog, but I haven't gotten the recipe from him to make it myself. I'm glad to have a good one to try.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, too, Carrie! :*

*grins* Egg to the Nog indeed. It looks yummy!

I start my crazy evil diet again on the 18th - so I'm doing that eating as much chocolate as possible thing before then.

Happy New Years to You and Yours! :)

*giggles* Too true, too true.

Also, nog is so good. I wish I wasn't allergic to just about everything in it. *pokes the nog*

I think the only thing in eggnog I can have is the sugar, alcohol and nutmeg... ;)
Carrie Leighcarrie_leigh on January 1st, 2011 01:22 am (UTC)

Sorry. I don't think I can do anything with that.

Eggbeaters and soymilk, maybe... but...
Elle Blessingwayelle_blessing on January 1st, 2011 01:31 am (UTC)
Soymilk! Eggbeaters still have egg in them, alas *pokes it* There's really no good substitute for eggs that's actually purely eggless. I tend to use applesauce if I'm baking, but I don't think that'd work for eggnog.

They sell pasteurized eggs now. That way you can eat them raw and not worry about dying! :)

Good to know, Janae. I like not dying.
