October's Winners and November's Contest!
I had all sorts of fun entries for Halloween, and I've been reading them when I've had time over the past few days. So, here goes.

The winner this month is filia_umbrae, with her first attempt at Castle fan fic, entitled Monster Mash. It can be found here, in the comments to last month's contest entry. You Castle fans on the f-list, give it a read. It's completely worth it. :D

Second Place goes to goeungurl, who wrote not just one, but two of my pet ships: D/G with a side of R/P and Booth/Brennan. They can be found here, and they're both fabulous, snarky, sweet and adorable in all the right places, and Diane on the whole just makes me smile.

Third Place Goes to leigh_adams, for her enormously well wrtten Remus/Tonks, entitled Howl. Wow. I sat there with my mouth open for a minute after reading. It's really good. It's Leigh, you know, so don't go looking for happily ever after, 'cause that's not normally how she rolls. ;) But truly fab all the same.

And an honorable mention goes out to heyurs, because she entered my contest! She didn't follow the rules and put her entry in a comment to the post, but she's Ursula. She doesn't play by the rules. And anyway, I owe her some blueberry jam. :)

In the United States, November = Thanksgiving. You seriously cannot swing a cat without hitting a pumpkin,a cornucopia or a weird, cartoon scarecrow. However, I acknowledge that American holidays do not necessarily resonate with the rest of the world. That said, I think being thankful is super important in life. Telling people that you appreciate them is affirming. Being thankful, even in the midst of difficulties, is an important thing to me, because I know no matter what troubles I may have, I'm still better off than a lot of people in the world. Being thankful is awesome.

Tell me what you're thankful for. Tell me why.

Easy, right? Then, with a wave of my magic wand (or random.org) three people chosen at random (Because how can I judge who's more thankful, I ask you?) will receive one of these bad boys.

It's a 24 oz. Starbucks Insulated mug. I got some for family members this year and I got one for Christmas from my friend Stephanie last year, and I use it all the time. It's awesome. You'll love it. You need it. So click and enter before I drag myself out of bed and check my email on December 1st.

Holy cow. December 1st. That's a whole year of contests. I've been overwhelmed with the responses each month, and very proud to call you all my friends. Thanks for entering and playing along each month! It's been fun!

then i am thankful that i had aislynn. i was going down a very dark road when i was 20 (because i thought i was invincible, i guess) and then i suddenly found out i was pregnant. EVERYONE tried to convince me to have an abortion or give her up for adoption, but i never considered either one. she saved my life, and quite honestly, i think she's pretty perfect and awesome. i love her so much. every day i thank God for her.

I am thankful for many things. In no particular order: my beautiful daughter Madison, my wonderful husband Jason, my job (challenging and fun and oh so interesting), my friends, the wonderful bits of fandom that I'm part of, the house we live in, that our neighbors are friendly and welcoming, that this town is great for kids and Maddy enjoys it here, that I can put my family's special blend of crazy into perspective now, and that I can be of help to others through the work that I do and sometimes just being there.

I am just in a really really really good place right now, and I don't think I can EVER really be thankful enough to have all of this. :)

*does cartwheel* YAY!!! You make me smile too.

It's been a whole year of contests? Wow. No idea. I hope you keep doing them. They've been fun--both to enter and read other entries. Besides, I still need to try to win one of your fabulous bags. ;)

I'm going to come back for the thankful one once I've had time to think on it.

:O! Ohmygoodness! *squees* I DO NOT believe this! HAHAHAHAHA!

I know. I never follow the rules, huh? My Granny used to get after me all of the time about it. You would've thought I'd've straightened up and flown right, huh? ;D

Being Thankful

I look over the past year, even two, and think how broken and desperate my family would be every time a dr from the hospital would call to say my sister was in critical condition and that they didn't think she was going to make it...5 times within 4 months to be exact. Alcohol and drugs were her means to stop the pain she was feeling. While it temporarily stopped her pain, it was the cause of affliction in her family. With tears in my eyes, I sit here and praise the Lord for what He has done and is doing. She has been clean for 9 months and is doing FABULOUS! She shouldn't be alive today...He has amazing plans for her! I couldn't have gone through this without the love and support of my husband and sweet children. I am eternally grateful for them and for my sweet Heavenly Father who NEVER LETS GO! :) Lori P.

I've recently moved out of my parents' house and 1000 miles away. Even though I don't have a job or car yet, I've got a really awesome support system here who are willing to help me out in whatever way they can.

I'm thankful to have things piss me off. Believe it or not. I'm glad my co-workers drive me nuts because I have a job. I'm glad that my mom is so invasive because that means she cares. I'm glad (okay not so much) that the dogs bark at 3 in the morning because it means I have someone there to snuggle with.

These things that irritate me mean I have so much to be thankful for. God has blessed me so very, very much.

I'm thankful for my family, that my parents stayed together when others would have parted, that they give everything to me and my brother that we could possibly need or want. Even though we might be spoiled because of that, it means that I can go to school with their support. As for my brother, even though we didn't get along well at all growing up, now I'm thankful to have him as a friend, whether he wants to be my friend or not. :)

I like this "contest" :D

I'm thankful that I'm saved. I'm thankful my family is alive, healthy and close enough that I can see any of them any time I want. I'm thankful that Mr. Elle is my best friend. I'm thankful for me moody dog. I'm thankful that I'm alive and healthy. I'm thankful for the undeserved blessings Mr. Elle and I have - good jobs, a home, and more than we need in every aspect of our lives.

I'm thankful for the ability to write, and the time to do it. I'm thankful for the people I've met here on LJ - for the good times, and the bad. They've helped to grow me, and I wouldn't trade anything. I'm thankful for friends who understand and give me more opportunities to learn how not to be so selfish.

I'm thankful for the relationships I have with family and friends. They're real. I'm thankful that God helped me find Mars Hill Church and led me back to him there. I'm thankful for a lot of trivial things too - like the fact that Ian Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, and that Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark, and for cute stilettos and pumpkin spice lattes.

*grins* Thanks for doing this, Carrie.

I am thankful for the fact that I am finally healthy again. That I'm going to school, getting fairly good grades, and making friends outside of the internet. I am grateful for all the lovely people I know who supported me when I was sick, and continue to support me now as I'm stumbling through life trying to live it like a normal person. I'm eternally grateful for my family, for my mum and my dad who loves me more than I can fathom, and I love them so much in return.

On a more shallow level I'm grateful for doing (I think) well on my gym exams and for the snow outside. I'm also very grateful for fandom and that it continues to be a safe and fun place for me to be. &hearts

I'm thankful for so many things--being saved, a loving family, my daily bread, an education, great friends, etc. But those are things that I'm thankful for every year.

Two things that I'm especially thankful for this year are: (1) God bringing me out to Korea. I fought it for a long time, but I needed it. Desperately. It's good for my career and mental health, but spiritually, emotionally, I needed it. I'll tell you the full story someday. Preferably over a glass of wine or six. ;)
(2) That I have an idea of what I want to do with my life. For years, I've asked God what His will is for me and now I have some direction. I know I'm supposed to be doing law and some kind of directing/producing/managing. For the past year, He's put me in law school and made me a director of a monthly live theatrical performance at church. I don't know how/if He's going to make those two career paths collide, but I just know that this is what I'm supposed to be doing now--and when I'm doing either, I'm happy as a duck in water.

*hugs* Happy Thanksgiving, darling. Give your family my love. I'll be looking forward to your magnificent Thanksgiving feast pictures. ;)

I'm thankful for so many things! My amazing husband Bryan, my beautiful Mackenzie, and my oh so funny Mattie. God has blessed me with such a wonderful family! I'm thankful for my health, and the healing that the Lord has provided for me. I'm thankful for the calling that God has placed on our lives and his continued direction which we should go. I'm Thankful! Janae

I am thankful for family. For my wonderful husband (of six months, now), my new family... the in-laws, my parents, and brother. I don't know where I would be without all of them. They have been so supportive over the last six months, as Barrett and I have transitioned from single to married.

As much as I whine and complain, I have an awful lot to be thankful for.

I have amazing friends who love and care for me...who are my family.

I have a mom who loves me even more than she annoys me (which is saying something, given our clashing personalities)!

I have a dad and a stepmom who care for me and know me well enough to give me the space I need.

I have a job, a kitty, my own car and apartment, and most months I'm able to float with my head above the water.

I have a Boy who is also one of my best friends.

I survived things I didn't think I would--high school, college. I broke away from a stepfather who brutalized my mother and myself with his words, and she finally did as well.

I am loved. I am warm. I am fed, and mostly self-sufficient. I have a family I was born to, one who chose me, and one whom I chose.

I am extremely grateful.

You DID win! And I've been toying with just mailing your cup! We haven't been at the same church service in a month and a half!
