June's Winners and July's contest!
I've been so pleased with the turnout for these contests! They bring me joy. :D

All the entries for last month, should you want to read them, can be found here. Go give the authors some love!

First place this month goes to abitofayla, for her fantastic untitled Ziva-centric NCIS drabble. The voices were spot on. The girl knows her NCIS. :)

Second Place goes to leigh_adams, for a super sweet and smooshy R/P that made me all melty and smile like a dork.

Third place tie goes to goeungurl and filia_umbrae, both with Bones drabbles that made me ridiculously happy. :D LHM, I CANNOT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER AND THE COFFEE CART. Ahem.

A round of applause for all these winners!

And your prizes will be mailed way earlier than last month (except Ayla? Let me know where to send yours, world traveler). Keep an eye out for them!

This month we're going to give the writers a rest and do a little something for all you cooks and bakers out there!

Hit me with your best recipe, one that is tried and true, and never fails to get yummy sounds for those who eat it. It can be sweet, savory, main course, appetizers or dessert. If you want to go all out, you can do a picture step-by-step on your own journal and link your reply in a comment to this post, or you can simply post the recipe, whichever you're most comfortable with. The winner will receive an Anthropologie apron and some kitchen-y things that might come in handy for future cooking endeavors. Entries must be received by the time I drag myself out of bed on August 1. Good luck and have fun in the kitchen!

You're luring me in with this recipe contest. I'm already flipping through my notebook. :P

Ah crap. I was thinking to myself, hmm, I think I will have time to do one of these contests soon. But of course I don't have any recipes, lol!

Aw, I thought you'd posted about food, once upon a time.

Never fear. We've still got August- December. ;)
Ayla: Eagerabitofayla on July 1st, 2010 11:23 pm (UTC)
You made me blush, Carrie!

Uhm. Depending when you send it out... it depends. Next week I'll be in Georgia. The week after Tennessee. Uhm. The week after that... Georgia. And then Texas hopefully for a week. If you'll be in Arlington towards the end of July you could hand it off. lol. And then the beginning of August finds me in Georgia for a week-ish and then back in NC. Whoo. I'm exhausted already.

So... just pick a place :D

This month is gonna suck because I don't cook. At least not really. I can bake-ish. Can I still write a fic and not be in the contest? Or something? I had an idea!

I called my story "Stones"

Okay, sister. Your box got returned to me. :(

You let me know where you fall next, and I'll send it on.

Carrie Leigh: Blonde pinupcarrie_leigh on July 2nd, 2010 05:08 am (UTC)
Wow. That's a lot of travel. I'll email you when I get the boxes ready.

A fic about food? Or cooking!

I say when in doubt, write. Your story will find its audience.

Really, no one else should even try. I've got this in the bag. *g*

Hope you're well!

I'm waiting for the month where one can win at whiskey drinking and obscure trivia... or sloth... or perhaps making a really good cup of coffee (which I did as a 'demonstration' speech in college)....

I could give you a recipe for a good, easy frozen margarita. That's as close as I can get.
Carrie Leigh: 333 I'm only half evilcarrie_leigh on July 2nd, 2010 05:10 am (UTC)
LOL You win at whiskey, I win at vodka.

A recipe for a good cup of coffee is still a recipe, friend.

Hm. I'd thought of trivia. But people cheat and google. :(

Maybe this fall...

Hmmm, chicken curry with coconut milk?
Or maybe meringue chocolate kisses?
Or cannoli with herbs feta filling?

Decisions, decisions...

Aww, thank you Carrie! (I've written more fluff in the past two weeks than I have in my life. I'm afraid my muse will go on strike if I don't get back on the angst track!)

And the other fics were wonderful, esp. the NCIS (and I only say that because I don't watch Bones). But I read and loved them all! :)

Oh lord.
First, I was worried that I wouldn't have anything. Now I'm worried that I can't chose. Bother. I'm just going to go for it, and write down a few of my tried and trues. *sigh*

Nothing complicated here, but it's all super yummy.

First: Chocolate chip cookies
1 stick unsalted butter
3/4 cup dark brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 bag chocolate chips (12 oz)
2 1/4 cup flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Preheat your oven to 375, first off, and then obtain two mixing bowls, one a little larger than the other.

In the smaller one, combine the sugars, eggs, vanilla, and the butter (which can be either creamed or melted). In the other bowl, mix up the flour, baking soda, and salt together, and make sure that you stir it up nice, so that everything is combined well. Now, combine one bowl into the other (I like to fold in the moist ingredients, myself). Add in your chips next...I tend to use Ghiradelli semi-sweet chips, and eyeball the amount.

On your cookie sheet (grease or not, depending on your sheet/preference/etc), spoon out about tbsp size portions. You can drop, or ball up, also based on preference. Then bake for about 12-16 minutes, and enjoy some delicious cookies. Makes about 12-14 cookies.

Second: Pumpkin bread

(This is another two bowl recipe, as well as two bread pans.) Preheat your oven to 350 while you're at it.

1 cup butter
3 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 16oz can pumpkin
1 tsp vanilla

Blend all this well in one bowl first.

3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp clove
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Mix all this together and add slowly to the wet mixture. If you'd like, you can add 1 cup chopped nuts or raisins, but that's entirely optional, and in my opinion, totally unnecessary.

Grease and flour your two loaf pans, and bake for about an hour, or until you can get a clean toothpick, and then you're set for two loaves of delicious, amazing pumpkin bread.

Third: Nikki's Pancakes

(You guessed it! TWO BOWLS! Also, your preferred pancaking cooking apparatus.)

1 1/4 cup flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 egg (beat egg before adding milk to it)
1 1/4 cup milk
3 tbsp melted butter

Combine your dry ingredients in one bowl. In the other, combine your wet ingredients, and then you're going to add the wet to the dry. It's very important that when combining these, you barely stir...basically, just do what you have to to get the dry stuff no longer dry. Why so important? MAXIMUM FLUFF.

Proceed to cook in the time honored tradition of pancake cooking.

Now, none of these recipes is original, sadly. But I can assure you that every single one of these is incredibly delicious. The cookies? Just the right mix of chocolate and softness. The pumpkin bread? Sweet and moist and scarfable. The pancakes? I have never had pancakes that can compare. I don't even use syrup or butter with them.

Enjoy, folks.

Re: Oh lord.
Made the muffins. You're right. Completely scarfable. Good Lord. Yum.
