Cute Kid Story, Opinion of Other Mothers, Icon Meme
Last Friday, when I was driving the kids to school, I mentioned that we'd be going to a Valentine's dance. I was not prepared for Ethan's reply.

Ethan: Ohhhh! There'll be girls. And cupcakes. And girls.

I'm really unsure as to which he was more excited about. I am most certainly NOT ready for middle school.

In other news, we've made a list of things that the boys are responsible for, with consequences for when the individual items aren't met. Does this seem fair, in your opinion? Other mothers of children on the f-list, I'd appreciate you weighing in.

Ethan and Aaron's TO DO List

1. Collect trash from all rooms and take to the dumpster (#15) at least once a week.
2. Keeps upstairs in order. This means bedrooms, playroom and bathroom.
3. Put dirty clothes in the laundry room or the laundry basket, keep it tidy.
4. Hang up towels after your shower.
5. Keep shoes, hats, coats, etc. in their proper place.
6. Keep the dogs' water dish filled. They'll appreciate it.
7. Put clean laundry in correct drawers or closets.
8. Clean up dogs' stuff in the backyard once a week.
9. Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, or take them to the sink.
10. Keep downstairs free and clear of toys, books, etc., and keep stairs empty.
11. Do your homework without being asked.
12. Do not lie.
13. Do not fight, bicker, yell or antagonize each other.
14. Give proper responses: Yes, Ma'am, no, sir, etc.
15. Turn off lights when you leave a room, close doors, drawers, etc. when you're finished with them.

"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

So, even though I'm not a mother, I have to say the chores sound fair. They're not too different from the ones I had, though I also had to set the table and empty the dishwasher. Of course, I think I got those chores as I got older. My mom and dad gave Pierce and I as many chores as were old, adding one a year on our birthdays. I guess the idea was that as we got older, we could handle more responsibility.

Oh, and our consequences if chores weren't done everyday? No allowance that week.

We don't do allowance, yet. They have no concept of money, so we're holding out a bit.

They do set the table when I ask, and unload the dishwasher if I don't have anything I particularly love in there. But those are extra things, not things expected of them without being asked. THAT'S what I'm trying for. To get them to take responsibility without my nagging.

Thanks for weighing in!

I'm just dropping in to say hi and I love you. Happy Valentine's Day.

I dig the icon meme (and your favorite is mine) but will pass this time as I JUST posted a meme and don't want to have two going at once.

The chores seem VERY fair and I think it's great to spell out expectations.

Those chores sound totally fair. My boys have the same list, except for cleaning up doggie doo-doo. We generally do that, but we do it every day so it doesn't build up in the backyard and the kids end up in while playing ... you know how icky that gets.

Ethan is into girls already? My eldest is in grade 6 (11 years old) and he could care less. There are girls in his class that have a crush on him but he's clueless and would rather just hang out with his best friend and play video games. :)

Happy V day! Nice layout - I'm using this one at my writing journal at the moment. I was a little confused when this came up, to be honest. I thought LJ was screwing up again. *hee*

Ah, the dog stuff. Yeah, they have acres and acres in the front of the house in which to play, so the backyard is mostly the dogs' domain.

And that's one of the reasons I had kids. So I wouldn't have to pick that stuff up anymore. ;)

As it turns out, that girls, cupcakes girls thing was a modified quote from Shrek 3: "Princesses... Castes... Princesses." It turns out we're safe for a while, yet.

Thanks! I have no talent for making layouts, but I can copy and paste CSS like a champ!

I love that your kids do that with movies and tv too. :)

I have no talent for making ANYTHING graphic but I recognize quality when I see it, and then I borrow it with great thanks. :D

The chores definitely sound fair. I'm looking forward to when Maddy can have some of that toy cleaning duty herself. :)

i think that seems totally appropriate. especially now that one is interested in girls!!!!!!!!!!

i was at Aislynn's class Valentines party friday and i totally caught her doing the 3rd grade flirt with a boy. i threatened to have a talk with him.......

There's a girl in AJ's class that follows him around like a shadow. Her mother thinks it's adorable, AJ is oblivious and I'm mildly horrified.

I'm obviously not ready for that part of motherhood.

Of course it's fair. And it's right. Train up a child... :)

I'm trying, Urs. I'm trying. that verse stares me in the face everytime I open the pantry. (9000 times a day)

That's all we can do...and remember to put Him first. I am officially mad at Trei...again. He dares to turn 16 this year. IT IS KILLING ME! *sigh* I ask about 9000 times a day, too, "Lord, am I doing the right thing?" Then I ask Him to keep me from hangin' his butt high, too! xD

*hugs you*

Egads! Brace yourself, if has begun! All you can hope it that cupcakes remain more tempting ;)

As for your chore list, it's perfectly fair. Good luck with implementing it!

Love the new layout! Very Sassy!! :)

As for the chores...they are right on! We started a chore-chart for the boys at the end of last year and for the most part they get it done. Since Nicky is just 4, his chores are a bit easier, although he wants Josh's chore of cleaning the bathroom counter with a scrubby-wipe, just because it looks fun.
Love the doggy-do chore...that was always mine when we had Shelby! Josh will ask from time to time when can we get a dog-Matt quickly explains "as soon as you can feed them and clean up after them". Josh's reply "ok...I'll wait!"

As for the girls....Nicky has a girlfriend named Brooke in his Jr. pre-k class and Josh has 3 different ladies!! One in his 1st grade class, one from last year's class and another one from pre-school that we have playdates with every 3months or so. A variety of looks from blond, blue-eyed to dark brown hair with brown eyes (like Mommy!). My prayers are with you on that front...you're going to be my mentor as "girlfriend time" comes along in our house!
