Dr. Who and Frank
Frank.

You all remember Frank, right?

Frank is the creepy ass concrete owl who lives in my backyard at the behest of my husband. (If you want to read about Frank, click the 'Frank' tag. It might give you some amusement.) I think Frank is weird and that he watches me, and Nolan thinks Frank is cool. He inherited him when he bought our last house from the old couple who lived there for forty years. And then made the move with us to our new house, sadly.

Anyway, after watching episode five of the newest Dr. Who I'm EVEN MORE creeped out by Frank.

Because...

...and my concrete owl? I see similarities. And we're DEFINITELY not getting any more statuary.

Love Dr. Who. LOVE Amy. And her hair. And her red jumper. She's just cute all over.

Anyway. Carry on. Just thought I'd share.

I feel:: blahblah
I hear:: nothing

They brought back the angels?

THE ANGELS HAVE THE PHONE BOX!!!!!!!11!!!!!!ONE!!!!!!

You haven't seen the eps yet? They have both the Weeping Angels AND River Song. She's kind of annoying in the first part of the first ep (it's a two-parter) but it does open up a whole new can of worms in her backstory.

The angels are different, but no less creepy.

I'm still trying to catch up on my TV from the 6 weeks I took off when Meg moved down and then we went back up north and then Steve, Kat, and the kids came down.

I haven't even started on Doctor Who.

Ah... Family stuff always trumps fandom. :)

I'm actually watching series 5 as it airs, more or less, so there's a lot more anticipation for me than before. Before I was mainlining them (like I'm doing with Fringe now) to catch up, so it's a bit of a different feel.

I like Amy. She's Not Quite Right somehow, and she's not Martha (my fave so far) but she's very fun. Some commentary around the intarwebs think that Karen Gillan can't pull off the role quite well, but I think she's doing a good job.

Very, very creepy. It's no good at all. Fricking angels.

I saw a Frank for sale a few weeks ago when I was down at the Williamsburg pottery buying flowers. They have huge a huge stoneware sections. There were several owls.

The people next door to me have a weeping angel statue in their front yard. It creeps me out...

On a side note, the girl who plays Amy is my mental Ginny Weasley.
Carrie Leigh: pretty ginnycarrie_leigh on May 18th, 2010 02:15 pm (UTC)
UGH. There's not very much statuary in my neighborhood, thankfully... though there is one house that has about a million little stone cherubs in the front yard. I don't mention to my walking partner how much trouble we're going to be in when those things grow up.

What's her face is probably a much better actress than pretty Bonnie Wright. I agree. Ginny, for sure.
Hyacinth Girl: Geek Chickeustacia_vye28 on May 18th, 2010 02:06 pm (UTC)
Definitely loving the New Who. I've seen comments in comms about how they hated the details about the Weeping Angels changing, but the Doctor even mentioned that their MO was different in that ep. Creepiest moment was in Flesh and Stone, when they were stalking Amy.

I like Amy. I think Martha's my favorite companion in New Who, but I do like her a lot. I still think there's something Not Quite Right about her, tho, and I can't wait to see how the arc plays out in the next bunch of episodes. :)

You know, I only saw one or two eps with Martha. I was one of the few people in the world that really liked Rose. But I like Amy better, and the new Dr. is growing on me.

Rabbity.

Hee.

I think there's more to her story. And i really like how they've set her up, knowing the Dr. from childhood and having him scar her and so forth. :D
Hyacinth Girleustacia_vye28 on May 18th, 2010 02:21 pm (UTC)
Oh, I like Rose, too. I think some of the eps with her are uneven, but there are some really, really good ones. Of course, her series introduced Jack, whom I adore, so it's all good on that count, too. :)

I liked Donna, too, tho more by the end of the series than at the beginning. She was very shrill and almost annoying then.

Now I know what I'm getting you for Christmas.

Just kidding... it's coffee. I know, the great coffee exchange. Still, it would be kind of fun to find out if I could hear you yelling all the way from Texas.
Carrie Leigh: Have to look like an accidentcarrie_leigh on May 18th, 2010 02:19 pm (UTC)
You could. Ew. Ew, ew, ew. And the shipping would be astronomical.

Your CD should be coming in the next few days!

I guess this means you're going to have to do up a roster for 24-hour-staring-at-Frank guard duty just to be sure.

Amy Pond is lovely lovely lovely. Also I am in love with Eleven. :)
Carrie Leigh: what the crapcarrie_leigh on May 18th, 2010 06:06 pm (UTC)
Crap. I'm not taking the shifts at dark.

Eleven is sort of sweet and has started growing on me, admittedly. :D

I love this new who series too! I haven't watched any of the others, but this doctor just looked adorable in the gifs i was seeing... and He is!

And Amy is so gorgeous, too. <3 her.

Also, yes. weeping angels were the creepiest thing ever... I haven't even been that creeped out by Supernatural in a long time...
Cydneyalittleredhood on May 18th, 2010 09:52 pm (UTC)
I, too, am a fangirl of Rose, Carrie! :D

I like Amy a whole bunch...but I'm not feeling Matt "Where're My Eyebrows" Smith. I don't like the chemistry he has with like...anyone on the show. :| Is that just me?
Carrie Leighcarrie_leigh on May 18th, 2010 10:10 pm (UTC)
I dunno. He makes me laugh. And I like his energy.

There have been moments. A few shared moments, between he and Amy that have been good. basically with any of the supporting cast, he's brilliant. But not so much with Amy or Whats his face, her fiancee.

But he is funny looking.

That Dalek icon makes me feel epileptic. How ARE YOU? Are you home from school, yet? Or are you staying in Denton?
Cydneyalittleredhood on May 19th, 2010 12:18 am (UTC)
His energy is good, but this season is definitely my least favorite so far. David took a little getting used to after Eccleston, but by like the second episode I was sold. But Matt Smith...I'm not feeling. He does have good energy but it just doesn't feel...right. I do like Amy though, I think she'd be splendid with David Tennant. This season seems to have so little cohesion to me. :/

All my icons are DW...that's how cool I am. I'm ok. School is out and I have completed a minor in Spanish already, believe it or not. I'm coming home for a couple of days for Nick Perry's funeral...have you heard about that? It's awfully sad...I'm still shocked. I'll be back for a few weeks this summer and then I'm going to be in Fargo, ND after that.

Oh, my gosh!

No, I didn't know. I saw that the services are Thursday at 2 pm.

I'm very, very sad.

Call me when you get into town if you want to catch up!
Alluring_Twilight: DWtrufaxalluringt_light on May 19th, 2010 09:38 am (UTC)
Amy/Karen is cute and adorable and perfect. So is the new Doctor/Matt.

Stone angels = not cute and not adorable, nor pefect. In fact, they're the scariest things alive.
Katie; Mourning Broken Angel: DW Blabbing In Snowobfuscus on May 19th, 2010 01:20 pm (UTC)
Yay! Fellow Whovians! (joins in the icon love)

Poor misunderstood Frank. :P Here's an idea- buy him a mate and position them so they're facing one another. No worries then, right? And a bonus of having a scary story to tell the boys one stormy night. :)

I'm torn because I thought Blink was a much scarier episode overall, but the Angel/Amy thing (vague to preserve our not-yet-viewed friends) was definitely uber-creepy.

Here's my early problem that I really hope Matt Smith outgrows as he gets a little more established in his role: If I close my eyes and listen to Eleven, it sounds like he's doing a bad impression of Ten. This makes me sad, because I want to like him a lot more than I actually do.And I like Eleven (sort of), and really like Amy. I still despise River Song on the grounds of her being Moffat's Super!Sue. She's a professor, a doctor, the Doctor's very speshulest companion/wife, can write in Old High Gallifreyan, pilot the TARDIS better than the Doctor, jump out of spaceships and do the whole martyr!savior thing. Yeah. I'd drop her into the Untempered Schism so she can be super with Rassilon. :P
