I'm over halfway through Phase One of this homeopathic (which is the same word as psychopathic in my head - every time) diet and I'm doing very well. I miss real food. By real food, I mean queso and snickers bars. And I have to say, if I ingest another single piece of lettuce anytime soon I might turn green and ruffly, but it's been worth it. I feel good, have lost a significant amount of poundage, the dress I wore last night was too big, and my husband even noticed a change.

And he never notices anything.

It's great for sneaking in new shoes under the radar.

Not that I do that. *cough*shiftyeyes*

But as great as all this is, I found myself sitting up in bed a few nights ago, long after hubs had gone to sleep, distracting myself with pictures on the internet. I've fallen victim to pornography.

Food Pornography.

This is one of my dad's favorites.  I have to admit, one of mine, too.  But nowadays I'm not really picky.  I have daydreams about spoonfuls of Betty Crocker frosting from the jar.

I don't even like German Chocolate.  But HOLY moly.  That looks yum.

Ditto for spice cake.  Maybe I'd just do the four-year-old thing and lick off the cream cheese frosting.

Chocolate puddle cookies.  Nothing more need be said.

*whimper*

Potato Egg Fritatta  Do you notice the pattern of carbs, here?

French toast casserole.  I actually made this Thursday for some sweet girls that came over for breakfast, but didn't have any, myself.  It was a wrench.

POUND CAKE.  Which in an of itself, tells you what it's going to do.  It's going to settle its pounds on your thighs.  Straightforward.  You have to respect that in a dessert.

Don't know, don't care.  Looks Gooooooood.

I love lemon desserts.  Like LOVE.  LOVE.

Is that spinach?  How did that get on there?  Ignore the greenery and focus on the Ciabotta bread and salmon salad....  mmmmmm.

Chocolate cobbler.  Can I get a hallelujah?

Vanilla bean scones.  Oh, dear heavens.  Help me.

MONKEY BREAD.

And I really think I could systematically work myself through this truck filled with baguette bread.  A little butter and jelly, maybe a dash of nuttella and some time, and I could knock this bad boy out.

Jesus Christ, Shepherd of Judea, deliver me from my voyeuristic carbohydrate sins.

If I were Catholic, I'd be reciting stuff 'til next Tuesday.

As it is, I'll just go have an apple.

It truly is unfair that carbs, especially ones in the forms of bread and potatoes, are the best tasting foods EVAR!

The cakes and such are nice, but I'm not a big cake/pie fan. I do make a hummingbird cake that is very tasty - think banana bread with pineapple slathered in cream cheese icing and topped with toasted walnuts.

It scares my Irishness silly to think of going on a diet/lifestyle change where those two food groups are eliminated, because, and lets be honest here, I haven't really met a potato I haven't liked (scalloped potato being the only potato I do not like).

I've never met a potato I didn't like. I've liked some more than others, but on the whole, I think the potato is the perfect food, no matter what you do to it.

Dessert icons, ahoy.

drooooooooools.

I wonder if there's a variant of your diet that is less regulated and more workable? To my horror, I discovered last week I've regained almost 20 pounds since I stopped breastfeeding. Most of it I think is since I got dizzy, since I couldn't jog around the couch anymore. I didn't notice because I had all these loose clothes in my closet. :(
Carrie Leigh: bitter lemonadecarrie_leigh on May 15th, 2010 10:54 pm (UTC)
Aw, the suck. I just want to walk in my closet and be able to put on anything.

The austere part is only for twenty one days, so I can suck it up for a few more days.

That's an AWESOME case of willpower you have, Carrie. I poked at that website and couldn't get past phase one. :D

Construction before 9am on a Saturday is also sinful, and worthy of many years in purgatory. (Or something akin to it.)

So what is this diet you're on? I probably missed the post where you talked about it - but I could really use some dietary discipline myself (says she with a plate of chocolate chip cookies sitting RIGHT BESIDE the computer). I'm good with the exercise but I have a little trouble with the food willpower. Perhaps something more concrete than "I really shouldn't eat this" would help.

deliver me from my voyeuristic carbohydrate sins.

You seriously slay me. Five less Hail Mary's for making me laugh while doing housework. :)

It the hgc protocol. If you google simply hgc, you can read all about it.

:)

HOLY CRAP. Nope, I'm not that desperate. That's just nasty. Some of it I could do, but not the no breakfast and buying something I'm supposed to dose myself with for a month. It sounds a little weird to me.

But hey, if it worked for you, awesome.
Carrie Leighcarrie_leigh on May 17th, 2010 12:28 am (UTC)
I eat breakfast. Couldn't live without it.
tracyj23tracyj23 on May 17th, 2010 12:50 am (UTC)
Me neither. I wouldn't make it to 8 o'clock without it.

I might try to do some modified form of this but without buying the stuff. I really can't afford it right now. The advice about the lean meat and veggies is good though. I've been working on that for a while already. Do you know of any way to lose the cravings for sweets and chocolate? That's my biggest problem.
Carrie Leigh: Carrie candycarrie_leigh on May 17th, 2010 01:01 am (UTC)
Find a substitute, is my only suggestion. Like a cup of tea with stevia, or strawberries. It's not the same, for sure. But it only takes a few weeks or so for your body to purge its addiction to sugar. Then it's not so bad.

I repeat: "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" a lot. And 2 Corinthians 10:4, "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." That's all food is, to me. A big, fat stronghold.
tracyj23tracyj23 on May 17th, 2010 11:53 am (UTC)
If only I could. Maybe with the sugar substitute (but all of that stuff is worse for you than sugar in other ways), but not with fruit. Fruit is just not sweet enough and I can't stand the stuff.

I might have to replace "you only live once, might as well enjoy it" with "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".

Oh, you know. Two could get through it faster than one. Wouldn't want you to get a stomachache either. You've got boys to raise!

I'll take that German chocolate cake (I had some last night at Bunco - I love coconut!) and some Monkey Bread. Yum-may!

Congrats on the weight loss! I've been slipping lately myself...I still jog regularly, but I have a hard time refusing carbs. It's a shame they taste so good. :P

that icon is HILARIOUS!

Thanks, I wish I could say I made it myself. I don't make any icons; I just beg and borrow them from other more talented people. ^_^
Carrie Leigh: kitchen goddesscarrie_leigh on May 15th, 2010 10:59 pm (UTC)
I love coconut, too. I think I could eat it right out of the bag.

If carbs tasted like lettuce, no one would want them.

I can, and have, eaten it right out of the bag. Le YUM!!!

LOL! Carrie, I was doing this too by then end of my first week! Probably why I only lasted 8 days. I couldn't stand the temptation. None of the weight has come back, though, so I'm going to start again - a few more days. Waiting till I feel a bit better to begin the torture again. :)

Tucking Becca in and then I'm coming to find you if you're still around...
